To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi, the UAE's leading watch and jewelry retailer and founder of Dubai Watch Week, Ulysse Nardin has unveiled the Diver Air watch in honor of the legendary figure. Hailed as the world's lightest mechanical diver's watch, this timepiece features a blue case in honor of Ahmed Seddiqi's anniversary. Released earlier this year, the Diver [AIR] defies the stereotype of traditional dive watches as bulky and heavy with its skeletonized movement and lightweight, high-tech materials. This watch features striking blue accents.
Although Ulysse Nardin is headquartered in Le Locle, a city 1,000 meters inland, the brand rose to fame for its precision marine chronometers, which it produced in the late 19th century. Ulysse Nardin is proud of its maritime heritage, having launched its first waterproof instrument in 1893, its first diver's watch in 1964, and its first perpetual calendar watch water-resistant to 200 meters in 2001. The brand's two collections are both inspired by this nautical heritage: the Marine collection features classic models, while the Diver collection focuses on avant-garde underwater watches.

The Diver [AIR] dive watch is designed to be water-resistant to 200 meters and weighs only 52 grams, 50% lighter than its Diver X Skeleton counterpart. Its case, measuring 44 mm in diameter and 14.7 mm thick, features a modular construction crafted from recycled titanium and low-density carbon fiber; the latter gives the notched dive bezel its marbled effect. However, the drawback of carbon fiber is that it is not water-resistant, and the movement is protected by a titanium case middle. The case sides are made of NyloFoil, a nylon foil made from recycled fishing nets and upcycled carbon fiber.
For obvious reasons, skeletonized movements are not typically found in dive watches, but Ulysse Nardin has gone a step further, reducing the weight of the UN-372 movement to create the UN-374, featuring skeletonized titanium bridges and a signature X-shaped design. The mainspring barrel is completely exposed, yet still offers an impressive 90-hour power reserve. As a pioneer in silicon technology, the escapement is naturally also made of silicon.
The crown guard, the graduated scale on the rotating bezel, the bezel overhanging the dial, and the striking blue accents on the elastic strap all highlight this watch's Seddiqi anniversary status. The Super-LumiNova coating on the indexes and hands emits a vibrant blue glow, matching the overall color scheme. The mineral glass caseback features a commemorative Seddiqi 75th anniversary logo.
